Document Summary

Developmental biology: study of organism"s initiation and construction from single cell to birth, study of other developmental processes that may occur later in life. Chapter 1: making new bodies (embryology: regeneration, metamorphosis, generates cellular diversity/order within generations, continuity of life from one generation to next, big questions, differentiation, morphogenesis, growth, reproduction, regeneration, evolution, environmental integration. What is the cycle of life: for animals, fungi and plants, the way we get from egg to adult is by developing into an embryo. As an embryo, the genotype becomes the phenotype: embryogenesis: stages of development between fertilization and hatching (or birth, steps, fertilization: fusion of mature sex cells (sperm/egg)- called gametes. The zygote cytoplasm is divided into smaller: gastrulation: occurs when mitosis slows down. This is extensive cell rearrangements and they give: organogenesis: cells interact and rearrange to make tissues/organs. Some cells will migrate to their final location (ex.
