King laius of thebes and his wife jocasta have a baby boy. The oracle of delphi predicts he will grow up to kill his own father and marry his mother. They bind the baby"s feet together leave him on mount kithairon. A shepherd finds the boy and named him oedipus. After he grows up, oedipus visits the oracle at delphi and receives the same prediction. He decides to leave home so that he won"t ever see his parents again. On the road, he gets into an argument with another carriage on the road. He kills all the people on the road in a fit of rage. He keeps moving along the road until he arrives at thebes, which is being terrorized by an evil sphinx. The sphinx says that it will leave if anyone can answer its riddle. He answers correctly and the people of thebes make him the king.
