It is a big deal for these reasons. Of all births in the us, ~39% were to unmarried women in 2006. Of african american births in the us, 75% were to unmarried women. Women in the their 20s are in the peak of their childbearing years and account for most births. Reflects the cultural trend of delaying childbearing to establish careers. For a woman, average of first birth - 25 years.
