Document Summary

Cerebral spinal fluid [csf] - for recirculation: protects, cushions, and nourishes the brain and spinal cord, removes waste, produced by choroid plexus. Synthesize it from blood: re-circulated back into blood at arachnoid granulations. ~every 8 hours: ventricles - filled with csf. Hydrocephalus - water on brain: found in adults or children, blocked flow of csf [fluid backs up, may be due to tumors, strokes, or defects, most common in the newborn. Often due to re-circulation villi or capillary underdevelopment. Skull expands due to fontanelles [soft spots]; skull not fused. Cerebrum - makes up the telencephalon: functions in conscious thought, memory, and learning, fissures and sulci [fissures are deeper than sulci] Transverse fissure - cuts the cerebrum away from the cerebellum. Lateral sulcus - divides frontal and temporal: lobes of cerebrum. Pre-frontal cortex - involved in intellect, complex learning, judgement, long-term planning, personality. Conscious perception of touch, pressure, pain, temp, etc. Grey matter vs white matter: white matter.
