Document Summary

Identify biotic and abiotic aspects of an ecosystem. Discuss different types of species interactions (competition, symbiosis, herbivory/ predatory) Explain the competitive exclusion principle and resource partitioning. Community- all populations, representing multiple species in same region. Ecosystem- biotic or living community plus the abiotic non living environment. Niche- all (cid:396)esou(cid:396)(cid:272)es (cid:396)e(cid:395)ui(cid:396)ed fo(cid:396) spe(cid:272)ies" survival, growth, and reproduction, has biotic and abiotic interactions. Each organism within habitat has unique niche. Species interactions have varying effects on reproductive success of participants. Competition: occurs when two or more species try to obtain the same limited resource (harms both participants) Symbiotic relationships: two or more species live in direct and intimate contact with one another. Herbivory: one organism eats part of plant or alga. Both predators and prey possess adaptions for survival (offensive and defensive) Competitive exclusion principle- species that gets more of the resources will end up becoming the dominant species.
