Amind 440 module 10 - the california mission system, sea to shining. In all of north america, california has always been home to the largest number of different native people and their cultures. Many of the tribal groups seen on the map of california speak different languages and have different traditions. Their homelands, established for thousands of years, extend far beyond state boundaries. These native american cultures overlap in ways that a map cannot show, through shared resources, trade, and family relationships. Language is a reflection of our environment, unique to each area . Marked beginning of us colonization of what was considered north mexico. Pike and a small group of soldiers were gathered illegally to enter. Spanish territory to gather information to later be used for military invasion. Under the guise of being lost , pike"s crew discovered pikes peak and built a fort in present day southern colorado.
