Document Summary

Reflex transfer (also called stimulus substitution): pavlov believed that association through contiguity did this, that whatever response was for the food got transferred to the tone. The tone became a substitute for food: pavlov thought that the tone becomes food, in conditioned leg flexion: there was a tone and then a shock. Later tone elicited a leg lift: this showed reflex transfer, in eyeblink conditioning: tone gave air puff. But later, just from tone there was blinking: this also showed reflex transfer, however, reflex transfer by itself does not explain many classical conditioning experiments, fear conditioning: rat is allowed to walk around in harness. Muscle tenses up so that the electrical resistance increases and may prevent some pain: tests to prove perkins, preference for signalled shock: rat put in box. Box has two sides, a white and black and animal can choose which side to be on. On black side, the rat is shocked occasionally.
