Not everyone who has seizures have it due to epilepsy: could also have seizures due to brain damage or tumors, even high fever. Seizures are generated by abnormal discharges in neurons of brain (brain dysfunction) Prevalence 1-4% of population whom there will be multiple seizure episodes. Next one up commonality wise from insomnia. Around 1:20 will have a mild insignificant seizure once. There are other things that stimulate seizures. Strobe lights can cause this/any flashing light like that type. Difficult to diagnose because it is a diagnosis of exclusion. Very long list of things it is not and only then can you determine that it is epilepsy. Based on being able to determine the electrical activity of brain. Generalized seizure involves the whole brain: doesn"t start in a focus, instead starts more centrally and subcortically, reference slide 6 for images of spread of seizures, petit mal and grand mal are both generalized seizures.
