Document Summary
Radiological procedures using x-rays: general images, computerized (ct or cat) The patient has to lie completely still for this for an extended amount of time. Mostly hard on the patient, not the scan itself in particular. Patients such as children who have interesting (not fully developed) brains would be interesting to scan but cannot stay still. Able to record the brains activity due to action potential of brain (electrical charges) chemical neurons. Three techniques for electrical recording: single/multiple cell recording, specifically for one cell, electroencephalograph (eeg) recording, record from the scalp, event related potential (erp) recording, use eeg technology to record this. Voltage difference in potential between inside and outside a neuron: changes through process of sodium, potassium, chloride, and calcium ions. See slide image for recording membrane potentials. Neuron recording is mostly done with animals (cats, rabbits, rats) Single action potential occurs in 1/1000 of a second (1 millisecond)
