Any of the parameters occurring simultaneously may potentially operate as individual signs in consort or conflict. Artists and musicians primarily use iconic and indexical signs. Everyday speech and academic writing involve a number of symbols. Lyrics of a song might trigger symbolic relations, but music is meaningful beyond words. Every musical sound, performance movement, and contextual features that affect perceiver are signs.
