Neither her saint nor religion nor her location on the reservation protects her. Mary does give birth on 12/25, but her child is taken from her. She has not given birth to the new messiah. Mary survives and remains imprisoned, awaiting her next impregnation. Apocalypse: designed to make us think about how we make meaning in the world. Each world is different (her parents", hers, her sons") Evolution happens very slowly, but devolution happens overnight in this story. Natural selection: the organisms best suited to the environment survive and reproduce. Evolution posters: progress = the evolution of the white man.
