Muscle tissue generates mechanical f in response to nervous system motor output for. Feeding and movement of food through digestive tract. Attached to bones by tendons (tough cords of connective tissue) Consists of a bundle of single long cell called muscle fiber, running parallel to the length of the muscle. Each muscle fiber is a bundle of myofibrils. Multinucleate derived from many cells fused into one. T (transverse) tubules infoldings of plasma membrane. Sarcoplasmic reticulum specialised er of muscle fiber. Myofibrils long fibers run lengthwise through fiber + composed of two types of filaments. 2 strands of actin = contractile protein. Troponin complex = set of regulatory protein. Each molecule has head at one end and tail at the other. Head sticks out are like hands. Tails associated with each other to form thick filament. Found in many cells, most highly organised in muscle cells. Filaments arranged in way that muscle fiber has a striped appearance.
