Concept 14. 4 many human traits follow mendelian patterns of inheritance. Concept 15. 4 alterations of chromosome number or structure cause. Concept 15. 5 some inheritance patterns are exceptions to standard mendelian inheritance. 14. 1 many human traits follow mendelian patterns of inheritance. Fig 14. 5a using a pedigree (family tree) widow"s peak is an inherited autosomal dominant allele (w: a pedigree that depicts a dominantly inherited trait has a few key distinctions. Every affected individual must have an affected parent. Dominantly inherited traits do not skip generations. Lastly, males and females are equally likely to receive a dominant allele and express the trait. When the trait is dominant, both heterozygous and homozygous individuals are affected. Pedigrees can be used to make predictions about future offspring: we can use multiplication and addition rules to predict probability of specific phenotypes, in the widow"s peak (w) example: trait is w dominant.
