Carl jung (1875-1961: founded analytical psychology, swiss, had a falling out with freud, but worked with him before. Probed deeper into unconscious and expanded the role it played in balancing parts of personality: balance is key in having adapted personality, conscious plays key role. Libido is a generalized life-energy source: drives us to seek pleasure and reduce tension, motivates us. Unconscious is a phylogenetic structure: means it developed over generations, passed down genetically, we share a part of our unconscious with everyone. Personality is retrospective and teleological: personality is driven by our hopes, dreams and aspirations involving the future. All the complexes are connected to the unconscious. Conscious ego: center of conscious self-awareness: involves sensations and perceptions to make individual aware of internal and external environments. Personal unconscious: below awareness: kind of like freud"s preconscious, complex: collection of thoughts, feelings, attitudes and memories that center on a particular concept.
