PT 548L Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Stim, Electrical Muscle Stimulation, Cathode
Document Summary
Monophasic pc: only one phase for each pulse waveform is either positive or negative. E-stim for wound healing: normal wound healing, 3 phases. Prolonged pressure, ischemia (causing anoxia and cellular death) Neurotrophic diabetes, arterial insufficiency, insensitivity, pressure: pressure ulcers aspect lower leg and ankle. Small, deep, dry, pale based, pain w/elevation, well defined borders. Weepy, ill defined borders peripheral edema hemosiderin staining, painless. Circular, peri wound callus, diminished or no sensation in the foot, painless: extrinsic factors. Impact injury: excessive uniaxial pressure, friction and shear forces, heat, moisture, posture. Immobility: sensory loss, age, disease, body type, poor nutrition. Infection incontinence: wound healing and stim, e-stim has proven to assist healing in: Anode (+)placed over an ionic silver dressing to drive silver into wound or cathode to attract activated neutrophils. Or cathodal stim 60 mins followed by anodal stim for 40 mins.
