Document Summary
Psychological assessment methods: two features: should be accurate and valid. Need to be able to quickly gain some insight into a client"s personality to make preliminary assessment. Freud: even if assumed free association is valid, its not efficient. Projective tests: test features are ambiguous. person interprets what they think it means. Results themselves are not super important, but they reveal a patient"s typical style of thinking which reveals underlying unconscious psychodynamics. Psychoanalytic theory sees complex organization of personality functioning. Dynamic system through which individual organized and structures external stimuli. Purpose of test and way it will be interpreted are hidden from the subject. Theorist is interested in relations among parts of the person. Interprets pattern of responses, not any one response. Experimented w/ different symmetrical cards and picked 10 that got response out of most mental patients. Researcher observes: how the response is formed, the reasons for the response, and its content.
