2 or more of the following symptoms for at least 1 month: Level of functioning is significantly lower than before onset. Continuous signs of disturbance last for at least 6 months. Preoccupied with delusions that are not especially bizarre for at least one month. Real situation, but taking it too far. Presence of hallucinations, disorganized speech, catatonic behavior, or negative symptoms rules out diagnosis. Social/occupational functioning is only impaired in areas directly affected by the delusional belief. Exhibit psychotic symptoms for at least one day, but no more than one month. After psychotic episode, experience returns to normal. Combination of a mood disorder and schizophrenia. 1) uninterrupted period of mental illness during which there is a major mood episode. 2) delusions/hallucinations for 2+ weeks in the absence of mood episode. 3) symptoms that meet criteria for a major mood episode are present. If delusions/hallucinations are present only during a depressive or manic episode, it is not schizoaffective disorder.
