Proposal that those with schizophrenia may have overactive or excessive dopamine activity in the limbic system. Likely due to high numbers of postsynaptic dopamine d2 receptors. Yet recent research suggests many aspects of schizophrenia cannot be attributable to only excess dopamine reactivity. Current hypotheses implicate many nts and their interactions.
