Given pater patriae after catiline conspiracy was revealed and stopped. Was invited to be part of the first triumverate, but refused when he suspected it would cause problems with the republic. Spokesman for senate while antony was consul. Also led to demise of the roman republic and rise of the roman empire. Formed a political alliance (first triumverate) with caesar, crassus, and pompey.
