GEOG 001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Moe Williams, Time Geography, Direct Instruction
Document Summary
An awareness space is the local area that an individual knows about and can potentially visit. Composed of spatial information and subjective utility of places. Time geography is the study of temporal characteristics of activities in conjunction with their spatial characteristics. Lund school of time geography began in 1970s with hagerstrand"s work. Graphically depicted as space-time paths and space-time prisms. Shows how a person moves throughout the day and the travel time and distance. For example: vertical line is time spent without moving. Depict the places that can potentially be reached by a person in a day (potential path area) space- time path is only one line. Migration is the permanent or planned long-term relocation of residence. Total displacement migration (from one country to another, or state to state, no overlapping activities space) Partial displacement migration (overlapping activities space, moving from iv to sb city) more likely than total. Sometimes more migration between places than expected by gravity" alone.
