Father and mother characteristics are thrown into a mixer = horror. Evolution doesn"t just doesn"t blend traits everyone would look the same. First dude who figured it out was gregor mendel. Crossbreeding experiments: worked with traits with two variants, peas: green or yellow color, texture wrinkled or smooth. F generations then used them and crossbreed them again, and the next green. Heritability is particulate (actual particles in the physical process) Particles (genes) are equally likely to be transmitted from either parent (independent assortment) Allele: variation of a gene (aa vs aa vs aa) Expressed in letters, and are in pairs because we get one from each parent. Expression is inhibited by presence of dominant allele. Only expressed if organism has 2 recessive alleles for same trait. Ex: attached earlobes, no freckles, blue eyes ect Genotype: genetic coding for a trait (aa) Phenotype: anatomical, biochemical, or behavioral expressed of a genotype.
