Calvinists: formed by john calvin and emphasized enterprise. The goal of the puritans was to revive communities by placing reformed christianity at the core. They faced a lot of prosecution under king james i and king george i. In 1609 the puritans wanted to move to holland however once they got there they realized the dutch were too secular and believed this would harm their children. They landed on pawtuxet and called it plymouth. They created the mayflower compact which was where bradford gave the single men in the boat a say in what their new lives would be like representing the first form of self governing in the new colonies. The puritans turned to the massasoit for help. The initial staple to make money off of was cod.
