29 views2 pages

Document Summary

Muscular activity of head and part of neck. Ventral horn nerve cells and processes are generally motor functions. Lower motor neurons- their axons leave spinal cord as motor roots of spinal nerves. Dorsal horn nerve cells and processes are generally receptor (sensory) functions. Internuncial neurons and axons from dorsal root ganglia; enter spinal cord as sensory roots of spinal nerves: has enlargements in cervical and thoracic regions. Due to increased number of neurons in gray matter supplying muscles of upper and lower extremities: white matter divided into ventral, lateral, and dorsal columns (also called funiculi) Meninges: 3 protective layers covering brain and spinal cord. Outermost is dura mater ( hard mother ); strong, 2-layered membrane. Extends out with cranial and spinal nerves (epineurium)- connective tissue covering for these nerves. Next is arachnoid mater ( spider mother ); web-like membrane, looser.
