Sociological theories of personality: emphasize social aspects of personality acquisition, include developments throughout life course. Three theories of the self: cooley, the looking-glass self. We imagine how we present ourselves to others. Misperceptions are as important as accurate perceptions: mead, stages of the self. Mead helps us understand how we learn to see ourselves as others see us. Three stages: preparatory stage: imitation, play stage: role taking, game stage: can cope with the existence of multiple roles in the same setting. Full socialization: the generalized other , hoffman, presentation of self. Dramaturgical approach: we"re all actors on the stage of our lives.
