Methods that measure the strength of a stimulus and the observer"s sensitivity to that stimulus: absolute threshold: smallest amount of a stimulus that can be detected, difference between (cid:498)sensing(cid:499) and (cid:498)not sensing(cid:499) Examples: how well doctors are able to detect small changes in brain scans, ex: beginnings of cancer or other certain changes.
