Document Summary
Guided notes: the game plan, sensation and perception, psychophysics, introduction to vision, visual perception and cognition, individual differences in vision. Sensation: simple stimulation of a sense organ (cid:498)raw information(cid:499) about internal and external stimuli. Receptor cells take in information: perception: brain"s interpretation of sensory information. The more stable the stimuli, the less attention we devote. Examples: getting used to the sound of a loudly buzzing of ac over a period of time, getting used to the sound of your alarm. Does everyone perceive things the same way: measuring perception: psychophysics, psychophysics: studies the relationship between physical qualities of a stimulus and the subjective responses they produce. Methods that measure the strength of a stimulus and the observer"s sensitivity to that stimulus: absolute threshold: smallest amount of a stimulus that can be detected, difference between (cid:498)sensing(cid:499) and (cid:498)not sensing(cid:499) Examples: how well doctors are able to detect small changes in brain scans, ex: beginnings of cancer or other certain changes.
