Document Summary

Three major philosophical ways we identify: philosophical orientation. Self concept: total knowledge you have about yourself. Characteristics of the self: subjective: you are who you think you are. Even if some people don"t see those characteristics, you do. You think of yourself as a good friend even though some people may not see that, in your self concept you are a good friend. Self esteem: overall judgment of his or her own self worth or value. 2 multifaceted: there are a lot of different sides of our self concept. You are a swimmer, an art major, a sister, an immigrant, a doctor. The sides can complement or be incompatible with each other. Incompatible and less facets = more susceptible to depression: facets are more or less visible. Some sides are obvious while some are not. Use the johari window to explore the different facets of a person.
