Ex: logos, brands, religious vs nazi symbol. Language definition: a system of symbols that allow people to communicate. Values and beliefs defined: culturally defined statements that people hold to be true and important in a society. Does not mean that it is morally good, it just means that it important and stressed. Taboo is what you are supposed to do. Breaking the taboo is what causes disgust. Think pair share: describe your culture in detail, reflecting on applicable symbols, language, values/beliefs and norms. Youth do not use informal language to address adults. Culture shock defined: the personal disorientation one feels when confronted with a different culture (macionis) Ignores past and present barriers groups face. Belief that success is a result of hard work. Ignores people who work hard and do not make it.
