We need to look at the roman empire in order to understand where things went. o. They were primitive in italy and greece was advanced, there were greek city states all over italy, and the romans copied everything and began to win battles. When they became a military power based on greek technique, they started to be inspired by greek poetry, philosophy, etc. they began to write in greek instead of latin, they brought in greek teachers, and the elite were bilingual. Virgil wrote the aeneid, o o a copy of homer"s epics, and cicero copied greek political theory and rhetoric. From about 300 bce-200 ad, the romans encouraged and spread greek science and learning. They brought greek science, philosophy, and learning to people throughout the empire. o. Everywhere in the roman empire, the romans maintained all the learning. Roman culture had this horrifying, violent element in it.
