(cid:863) Why are we interested in ethnicity: tremendous staying power. Powerful force, even though people have predicted that it would disappear. Modernization theory-predicted that people would lose identity of ethnicity in favor of metropolitanism: threat to democratization. Having a democracy is predicated on the idea that losers can become winners.
