Evolution of the ej movement it is very new. 1980 locally org and isolated organizations mostly white working class communities and communities of color. 2000s to now early e orts to create a transnational ej movement. E orts to create a national umbrella organization. creating a national environmental justice leadership structure but mostly has failed and in crisis . The ej movement is a convergence of 7 formerly independent social movements. Occupational health and safety movement working for labor rights and better working conditions for immigrant labor and workers of color. Indigenous lands movement indian and chicano organizations e orts to protect land rights. Rst emerged in 1980s in south africa, brazil, and central america the immigrant rights movement groups organized to protect immigrant rights including more and more climate justice and green jobs movement. Environmentalism of the poor as a source of livelihood, protecting the environmental is a material necessity (not a luxury)
