Players with their hands on the platform are actually moving the platform. Movements go below the level of consciousness. No one knows or is thinking that they are moving the platform. Don"t attribute cause to their own bodies. Wegner and wheatley (1999): i spy experiment. Move the cursor to the object on the screen. Whoever"s motion happens first controls the mouse. Confederate is the one moving the cursor since the participant"s side does not work. Hears the target name first before the participant. Participant does not notice this and reported in every trial that they had controlled the mouse. Background: perceived causal link from thought to action. Mouse tracking task with partner ( an experimental confederate) Timing of instructions to participant and confederate on critical trials.
