For diagnosis, the derealization/depersonalization experiences must happen repeatedly & cause considerable distress & interfere with social relationships & job performance. Occurs most frequently in adolescents and young adults, hardly ever in people 40: comes on suddenly, and tends to be long-lasting and few theories have been offered and little research has been conducted. A common risk factor for developing this disorder is childhood abuse, particularly emotional abuse or neglect: also physical abuse, but not as strong an association between abuse and development of the disorder as seen in did. Date: 2/29/16: psychotherapy, to work through trauma issues. Psychogenic amnesia: amnesia with psychological cause: the individual has an inability to recall important personal information. Diagnostic criteria: inability to recall important autobiographical personal info, usually of a traumatic or stressful nature; inconsistent with ordinary forgetting, distress/impairment, not due to substance use/abuse, or a neurological condition, or other medical condition.
