Document Summary

Rhea khilnani fri dec 09 12:18:30 pst 2016: functions of circulatory systems. Blood pumped under low pressure from heart to lungs. Returns to heart to be pumped under high pressure to other body tissues. Major advantage: two different blood pressures in two different systems. Systemic circulation: blood pumped to the body, deoxygenated blood delivered back to the heart. Pulmonary circulation: blood pumped to lungs, then back to heart. Composed of cells and cell fragments in a solution of water containing dissolved nutrients, proteins, gases, and other molecules. Water, nutrients, oxygen, waste, and hormones also functions in buffering, fluid balance, and transport of cells and proteins. White blood cells defend body against infection and disease. Red blood cells oxygen transport using hemoglobin hematocrit. Septum separates atria and ventriclesblood enters from systemic or pulmonary veins into atrium. Through one way atrioventricular (av) valves into ventricles. Out one way semilunar valves into aorta (systemic) or pulmonary trunk.
