Limit medically important antimicrobial drugs to use in food producing animals that are considered. Limit drugs to veterinary oversight or consultation. Must follow restrictions on labels, and for each livestock, it provides information when you can use it. Slaughter withdrawal period (cannot use within ___ days) Milk discard (cannot use within ___ days) Meat and milk are routinely tested for antibiotic residues to insure that levels are below legal limits or tolerances/safe level. Milk samples are tested for the presence of antibiotics (particularly, 4 of 6 drugs) If it tests positive, then it cannot be sold to humans, and they test the residue and bill the farm. There is a significant incentive to follow the guideline. Holstein cattle in us have high yields, high feed, low resistance to stresses and diseases do well in our production systems) Better job about tracking costs and benefits. How efficient is the feed conversion rate.
