Document Summary

Lab 10: reaction of crystal violet with naoh. Individual portion: given a similar reaction, a + oh- B, explain how you would design the experiment to determine the reaction orders and rate constant, given that the reactant a is colorless, and the product b is colored. In order to determine the rate constant and reaction order, we have to collect a set of data with different initial concentrations of each reactant and initial rate of reaction. For example, one trial would be a constant with a 1:1 ratio of reactant a and oh-. Then in trial 2, i would double the concentration of reactant a and measure the rate. In trial 3, i would double the concentration of reactant oh- and see how that affects the rate. I would hold the temperatures, amounts and reaction vessel constant. Even though, a and oh- are colorless, when it turns a color, i will know the reaction is close to completion.
