PSY 30312 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: Enuresis, Fecal Impaction, Toilet Training
Document Summary
Elimination disorders: shift from diapers to toilets= between 12 and 30 months of age, enuresis: problem with the elimination of urine bedwetting. Nocturnal (most common), dirunal, or both= specifiers. Lasts 2 times per week for at least 3 months. Older than 5 years older, especially in boys. By age 10, only 3% of males and 2% of females affected 1% in adolescence. Higher rates found in boys than girls. Caused by lower production of antidiuretic hormone genetically based. These children produce less of this hormone, so their bladders produce more urine, which causes them to pee their pants. Very genetic based disorder if a parent had it, then child is also very likely to have it. Primary enuresis= child has never attained at least 6 months of continuous nighttime control and secondary enuresis= had control but then relapsed. Best treatment= urine alarm, dry bed rewards, bladder control exercise, cleaning up accidents.
