Believed god had a covenant with them (like he had with moses) Covenant of works: how god wanted them to live. Covenant of redemption: how god forgave people. Calvinist predestination: god already had chosen if you"re going to heaven or hell. Those who were definitely headed to heaven were made holy and sanctified. Government and churches were combined, so conforming was rewarded. English people had a higher expectation of self-government. (the great charter) People spread out from boston into separate communities. From a wealthy family who had known winthrop, was a close friend of him.
