Document Summary

Understand the major types of metabolism and energy yielding processes in biology. Describe the two major types of metabolism in a cell. Catabolism- chemical reacions that are degradaive, consume carbon, and generate energy. Anabolism- chemical reacions that build a cell and require energy (biosyntheic reacions) List the major energy yielding processes in biology. Calculate the delta g prime or the delta g given the relevant informaion. Delta g = sum delta g of products - sum delta g of reactants. Predict the direcion of a reacion in diferent condiions. If delta g is negaive, it"s an energy producing reacion. If delta g is posiive, it"s an energy consuming reacion. Lowers acivaion energy, so it makes it easier to move forward. Does not change the delta g, does not cause a reacion, only speeds it up. Illustrate the deiniion of the acivaion energy of a reacion in a drawing. Show a graph of free energy vs. progress of reacion.
