Compensation and benefits systems are an essential element of human resource management strategy. Besides what we traditionally think of as compensation (base pay, bonuses, stock options), organizations offer employee benefits which are valuable to employees (and increasingly costly to organizations). Because employees" total compensation includes both traditional pay and benefits, we will consider both in this course. In addition, this course also focuses on how managers can utilize compensation to attract, retain, and motivate qualified employees. It is intended to give students both an understanding of the theories underlying pay system design and hands-on experience applying these theories. United states: to make you aware of current issues and trends in the compensation and benefits field. Course requirements: in-class exams: 500 points or 50% of the course. There will be four in-class exams and each worth 125 points. You"ll be asked to answer 50 multiple-choice questions. The exams will cover materials presented in class and the assigned readings.
