ACC 220 Lecture 35: 35 ACC 220 CH 12 (1)
Document Summary
Electronic buying & selling of goods and services. Threats: hardware and software failures, unauthorized access, lost transactions. Intra-organization networks and edi (see appendix of chapter 12) Local area networks (lans) and wide area networks (wans) Difference between lan and wan is the geographical area that their distributed sites cover. Lan often confined to single room or may link several buildings within small geographical area. Can cover a distance of several miles and connect hundreds of users. Computers connected to a lan are called nodes. Wan often commercial networks leased by the organization due to distance involved and high cost of telecommunication infrastructure required. May be used to link segments of a single organization dispersed geographically or connect multiple organizations. Network interface card (nic) computer hardware component that connects computer to the lan. Works with the network control program to send and receive messages, programs, and files across the network.
