Relationship to sociological theory: the law is more than just words on a page, its fundamental social institution that is connected to our social organization. (cid:863) Again highlights this interplay between the law and the individual, but adds a new element into the mix: the people are a collective themselves and not just individuals who are ruled. Humans are selfish by nature and will serve their own interest almost always. The state was created, not by benevolent philosopher kinds, but by human society creating an agreement that they would band together to protect each other from the other chaotic humans.
