Document Summary
Deferential politics and society in colonial america: england"s government in the colonies. By 1750 all of the colonies are royal colonies: king appoints royal governers who are in charge of the colonies. The governor reports the parliament so theoretically parliament runs the colonies: salutary neglect: healthy neglect. Parlament stays out of the colonists business so they can do what they want. Ex: iron act- colonists cannot produce their own iron, had to buy it from england. Same with hats: colonists become best smugglers, they had laws, but no one really paid attention to them, royal presence is slight in colonial america. The royal governor has link to the monarch: tax collectors reside in port cities (tariff- import/export taxes on trade good, royal presence seen in the governors mansions which are the biggest structures in the colonies.
