Document Summary

Theory: hypothesis that has been tested many times and always supported; has validity. Law: a theory that has continued to be tested and always supported; extension to theory. Organisms are composed largely of 11 basic elements. Humans are worth around ,000 (if all the elements were bought) Smallest unit of matter separable by normal chemical means. Smallest unit of matter that retains all of the properties of that element. Atomic number= the number of protons in an atom. Atomic mass= the number of protons and neutrons in an atom (approx) Isotopes=variants of an atom, having a different atomic mass (neutrons) *know how to find out atomic mass and number. Valence number of electrons that need to be gained or lost to fill the outer shell of electrons also predicts the number of bonds that an atom will form. Valence electrons= the electrons in the outer most shell. Form when atoms gain and lose or share electrons.
