Institutions: ascribed status- assigned and involuntary status, set status- a combination of all statuses, a status allows us to predict your behavior, master status- a high and mighty status like a celebrity, ex-prisoner, u. s. citizen, achieved status. Groups: a group is a collection of people who share some characteristics and interact with each other. Most aggregates meet only once: associational groups-consist of people who join together in some organized way to pursue a common interest- political party. Reference groups- the groups we identify with psychologically: positive or negative, serves as source of self evaluation, reference group, consequences. Social network is the web of direct and indirect ties connecting individuals to other people: you and your family, friends, peers, colleagues, teachers and coworkers constitute your social network.
