Islam is arabic for submission to the will of god . Muslim is arabic for one who surrenders to god . Mohammed is the ultimate and most important prophet. Jesus is an important prophet, but not as much as mohammed. Messiah in islam is more of a messenger compared to jewish or christian ideas. Divisions within islam: sunni, about 85% of muslims today, has further divisions within, shia/shi"ites, majority in iran and iraq. Buddhism: born in foothills of himalaya mountains, nepal or india, unsure, 557-477 bc, had an awakening while meditating under a tree near a river, changed name to buddha, meaning supremely enlightened one. And eight-fold path: leads to nirvana, a state of being with the end of passion, ignorance, aggression, and struggle. Middle path: avoids extremes in indulgence and deprivation and in doctrines, even buddhism: balanced approach to life and practice. Non-theistic: buddha is a man, not a god.
