BISC 313 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Coral Bleaching, Intraspecific Competition, Logistic Function
Document Summary
If grown alone, both species could survive in both soil types. Competition: an interaction (-/-) between individuals in which each is harmed by their shared use of a limiting resource. Interspecific competition: interaction between two species in which each is harmed when they both use the same limiting resource. Intraspecific competion: interaction between individuals of a single species. Intraspecific competition is more intense because you"re competing for the same resources. Competition occurs between species that share the use of a resource that limits the growth, survival, or reproduction of each species. Resources are features of the environment required for growth, survival, or reproduction that can be consumed to the point of depletion. Put them in separate environments, and then together. R* the lowest level of the shared resource. Species compete indirectly: individuals reduce the availability of a resource as they use it.
