A crime typology is a framework for understanding the thousands of types of crimes that exist. Five reasons why it"s important to focus on crime typologies. Criminal justice scholars are able to focus their research one specific types o crime. Policy makes can make better use of information from scholars who address specific categories of crime. Criminal justice decision makers categorize their responses on crime based on crime types. The sheer number of different types of crimes specified in legal codes mean that criminal justice scholars must focus on crime categories in order to make sense of those offenses. Violent crimes are those that cause direct physical harm or threat of physical harm to victims. The killing of one human being by another. First degree: homicides that are premeditated and deliberate. Second degree: homicides that are not planned but are intentional.
