One-drop-rule: americans were expected to assign themselves to only one racial group. Principle of hypodescent: assigns multiracial individuals to subordinate racial category which reinforces white dominance. Essentialist theory of race: race as real entity that consists of underlying essence, determining a person"s dispositions, and is characterized by clear, unalterable physical and psychological makers. Hypothesis: essentialist theory of race is positively associated with the proclivity to engage in racial classification and sensitivity in discerning racial categories. Us biracial citizens get more easily categorized into the non-whites due to slavery laws like the one-drop rule and the principle of hypodescent.
