Power is widely and controversially debated by many authors with different academic backgrounds, it is difficult to identify a single, authoritative definition of the concept. Although power and influence are often used interchangeably, researchers generally agree that they are subtly different. To achieve its effect, it need not actually be exercised. When talking about power it is very difficult to retain a neutral stance. Michael foucault: power forms knowledge, produces discourse. Whether the exercise of power is good, bad or something in between depends not only on the personal viewpoint of the observer, but also on what power is used for. Coercive power: power based in force and fear.
