The quality of a study is measured by the construct validity. Construct validity refers to how well a studies variables are measured or manipulated. Is used to look at frequency, association or causal claims. Three common measures used in operationalization: self-report, observational and physiological. Conceptual definition construct: represents a researcher"s specific decision about how to measure or manipulate the conceptual variable. Diener and gallup both tried to measure happiness. The process of operationalizing: start by stating a definition of their construct ( conceptual variable) and then create an operational definition. Self-report: operationalize a variable by recording people"s answers to questions about themselves in a questionnaire or interview. In children, it may be replaced with parental or teacher reports. Observational measures: sometimes called a behavioral measure, operationalized a variable by recording observable behaviors or physical traces of behaviors. Physiological measures: operationalise a variable by recording biological data, such as brain activity, hormone levels or heart rate.
